Registered Behavior Technician (RBT Job Description)

What is an RBT: An RBT is a Registered Behavior Technician®(RBT®), which is a

paraprofessional certification in behavior analysis. RBTs assist in delivering behavior

analysis services and practice under the direction and close supervision of an RBT

Supervisor and/or an RBT Requirements Coordinator, who are responsible for all work RBTs

perform.

To become an RBT an individual must:

  • Be 18 years or older

  • Have a high school diploma (required)

  • Pass a criminal background check

  • Complete 40 hour RBT training course

  • Complete Initial Competency Assessment®

  • Apply through the Behavior Analysis Certification Board

  • Take and pass RBT examination

If you are not an RBT currently, ATC is also willing to consider providing RBT training for the

right professional and motivated candidate. RBTs will provide 1:1 intensive behavioral

interventions rooted in principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) under the close

supervision of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCaBA/BCBAs).

RBTs or individuals interested in getting the RBT certification must:

  • Be passionate about helping children with special needs and their families

  • Be responsible and reliable, arriving on time for sessions (excessive call offs will result in termination)

  • Respond respectively to feedback regarding performance

  • Manage their time efficiently to meet all task deadlines

  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal interactions with families and coworkers

  • Understand and adhere to BACB’s Ethical Code of Conduct

  • Those who have prior experience working with children or individuals with disabilities are preferred.

Responsibilities Include, but Are Not Limited to:

  • Effectively communicate with families about their children's progress

  • Deliver 1:1 ABA treatment with clients

  • Work with the treatment team to help children achieve individualized communication and early learning goals

  • Assist with preparing for clinic-based group activities

  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude, treating all families and coworkers with respect

  • Demonstrate an understanding of acceptable procedures and techniques
